Horta de Sant Joan
Horta de Sant Joan is the tourist and cultural capital of Terra Alta. Declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia, it preserves the medieval charm with a square with porches, a Renaissance town hall, and a 12th century Romanesque-Gothic church. All this in a town with narrow and steep streets that form a truly wonderful historical artistic experience.
It is a town where you can get lost in its streets and discover some corners that appear before our eyes like a historical composition made by an artist who wants to impress us with their work. The area has many places of interest, among them, the Picasso Centre in Horta de Sant Joan, where his art, style and part of his history is exhibited.
We would also strongly recommend you visit the Ecomuseu dels Ports to discover the territory through its artistic, architectural and natural heritage, the Convent of San Salvador de Horta or “Lo Parot”, an eight-metre high olive tree that was declared a monumental tree in 1990 by the Government of Catalonia.
